Cancer Support Resources

There is an ever-growing number of cancer and caregiver support organizations, many of which have chapters based right here in the DC region. The links provided below will get you started on your search for support before, during and after your treatment.

American Cancer Society/National Cancer Information Center
ACS provides cancer information and support to patients, families, and caregivers.

American Dietetic Association (ADA)
Worlds largest organization of food and nutrition professionals.  Provides information on diet, nutrition, registered dietician service, including access to dietitians who specialize in oncology nutrition.

CancerCare provides free, professional support services to anyone affected by cancer: people with cancer, caregivers, children, loved ones, and the bereaved. CancerCare programs - including counseling, education, financial assistance and practical help - are provided by trained oncology social workers and are free of charge.

Cancer Hope Network
Cancer Hope Network matches patients and families with trained volunteers who have recovered from a similar cancer experience.

Cancer Support Community
Cancer Support Community is a national organization that provides support groups, stress reduction and cancer education workshops, nutrition guidance, exercise sessions, and social events.

Hope Connections
To help people with cancer and their loved ones deal with the emotional and physical impact of cancer through participation in professionally facilitated programs of emotional support, education, wellness and hope.

National Cancer Institute (NCI)
Government agency, as part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) provides information on cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment.   People with cancer, caregivers and healthcare professionals can contact for information including complementary and alternative medicine and nutrition.

National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship
NCCS provides information and resources on cancer support, advocacy, and quality-of-life issues to cancer survivors and their loved ones.
